The Brown University and Ethiopia Partnership

Since 1995 Brown University’s Population Studies and Training Center has had an active program of training and research in Ethiopia. We have developed successful institutional collaborations with the Demographic Training and Research Center at Addis Ababa University and with the Department of Population and Family Health at Jimma University. We have gained colleagues and collaborators through workshops in Ethiopia on research design and statistical methods for the study of population and reproductive health. Together with our collaborators in Ethiopia and our colleagues at Brown University we have done original population health surveys, analyzed data collected by the Government of Ethiopia’s Central Statistical Agency, and published many scientific and policy papers. We are now embarked on a new program of policy-relevant scientific research on adolescent life, physical and reproductive health, risk taking, with the goal of improving the lives and fortunes of the next generation of Ethiopian citizens. This web site describes these activities, and provides linkages to our collaborative institutions and work.
