Funding Sources
The collaborative training, infrastructure, original survey research, data analyses, and scientific and policy reports by Brown University, Addis Ababa University, and Jimma University would not have been possible without the generous support of numerous foundations and government agencies. Each of the funding organizations provided general support for our activities, with directed funding for certain efforts. The Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region’s Community and Family Survey was supported by grants from the Mellon Foundation and the Hewlett Foundation. The Hewlett Foundation has provided the financial resources for graduate student training at Brown University, and the Mellon Foundation has sustained our post-doctoral training. The Compton Foundation and the Packard Foundation have generously supported the development of the physical infrastructure for research and our training activities in Ethiopia. The Compton Foundation sponsored the Gilgel Gibe Social and Sexual Relationship Survey. Grants from the Mellon Foundation and the Packard Foundation have funded the Jimma Longitudinal Family Survey of Youth. The Packard Foundation has been a maintstay for our activities during the past five years; we are privileged to be part of its population program activities in Ethiopia.
